The UK is set to deliver 2,000 new flood defences, investing billions of pounds to protect over 5 million homes and properties from flooding – and this conference will highlight the opportunities for your business in the sector.

The government has plans to invest in a new flood and coastal defence programme in England that will deliver around 2,000 new defence schemes. The programme is set to receive £5.2 billion in funding over the next 6 years which will protect 336,000 properties by 2027 to better prepare communities for the effect of climate change. According to Climate Central, rising sea levels could render parts of North Wales and East England underwater in 30 years, with miles of railways, property, and farmland at risk. Western seaside communities such as Blackpool and Southport are also among the areas that could be underwater by 2050. A map produced by Coastal Central outlined how we could potentially see many parts of Liverpool and Wirral below the annual flood level by 2030.

In addition, the Environment Agency estimates that 5.2m properties in the UK are currently at risk of flooding, with the potential for that number to double in the next 50 years. In July 2021, the environmental regulator announced it will spend £860m on schemes in 2022. From innovative ways to unlock development via drainage, nature friendly solutions and developer partnerships, this conference will explore how the built environment ecosystem are collaborating to deliver multimillion pound projects while also mitigating the challenges presented by climate change.
