Event Information:

This webinar is part of a new series on the future of the construction industry which are taking place over the next 12 months, and will explore the next big trends, innovations and challenges the industry needs to prepare for.

The UK Government recently released the ‘Planning for the Future’ White Paper which gave a ringing endorsement of the PlanTech Industry, and recognised the potential for the UK to become global leaders in digital planning and in technology revolutionising and democratising the sector.

We will gather major industry influencers to discuss the ways in which technology will revolutionise the planning sector, the opportunities this will bring and why it is vital everyone in the sector embraces planning technology.

These events are a must for those wanting to be at the forefront of knowledge and understanding and gain insight into how the industry is going to innovate, transform and disrupt in order to stay ahead of the competition.

Speakers for this event include:

  • Greater London Authority – Simon and his team are putting together the London Development Database Automation Project, supported by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s Local Digital Fund. This will streamline the entire planning process, allowing planning application data to move more smoothly from applicants, through London’s 35 local planning authorities to City Hall and out to the public. The project will create a ‘live hub’ of planning and development information, accessible to everyone. The project is moving into an exciting stage and Simon will be in a position to discuss further details and stats on the effect their work will have on the planning process in London.
  • Connected Places Catapult – Nissa is the project lead for a number of discovery-based projects including digital planning, housing data and net-zero strategies. She is a noted thought leader in the planning technology field and will discuss how the digitisation of planning is becoming a clear and pressing priority which requires resources and direction. She will explain how this process is not about ‘replacing the human’, rather giving planners the tools to do their jobs more effectively by modelling developments in real-time on digital platforms, opening up engagement channels remotely and therefore capture previously excluded audiences.
  • Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government – Euan is an expert on digital planning and was previously involved with Future Cities Catapult where he was involved in research into how digital technology can be used to enable more evidence-based decision making in cities. As part of the Digital Planning team in the MHCLG, Euan is focused on using technology to create a more transparent, inclusive and responsive planning system. He will give an overview of some of the projects the team are involved in to achieve these aims, including one which will allow council’s to adopt digital local plans.
  • VU.CITY – Paul Oesten-Creasey is Chief Technical Officer at VU.CITY, the smart city platform that provides clarity to built environment professionals throughout the design and planning process. Paul has 12 years experience in architectural visualisation and application development, and was instrumental in the founding of VU.CITY and it’s continual growth.
