Planning and placemaking play a vital role in the success of any major development – and this webinar will focus on these key topics with commentary and discussion around the recent Government planning reform, the local and national spatial planning strategy, and best practice and thought leadership into what makes great planning and placemaking.

Speakers for this event include:

  • Strategic Land Group – Experts in land and planning and specialists in bringing difficult sites for development, Strategic Land Group have several housing developments across the Midlands. Their Kirton-in-Lindsey project will see 80 homes and associated community space developed near Lincoln and they have several other projects across the Midlands and UK as a whole. Paul will share details of these developments as well as an insight into their planning process.
  • Godwin Developments – are planning to develop the 6.5-acre former site of Stafford Rugby Club into an £80 million mixed-use development featuring a 100 room hotel, 300 BtR homes and retail space. Stuart will share details of the scheme, which is at an early stage and is a vital part of the wider regeneration of the area.
  • Argent – is the developer behind the £700 million Paradise scheme that is transforming Birmingham city centre. They are currently bringing forward an application for the next phase of the project, which will see a 40-plus storey tower constructed to contain more than 320 apartments. Rob will provide info on the current status of the project and how it will proceed in the coming months.
  • The Royal Town Planning Institute – champions the power of planning in creating prosperous places and vibrant communities. Sue Manns FRTPI was inaugurated as President of the RTPI in January 2020. Having studied Town and Country Planning as a Postgraduate at Manchester University, Sue started her career at Birmingham City Council and has worked in the public and private sectors throughout her career including University of Central England, Advantage West Midlands, Arup and Pegasus. Since 2018 has run her own practice which specialises in strategic advice on community engagement and consultation in relation to development projects. She is a visiting lecturer at Birmingham University, and a Fellow of the RSA and RGS.
