A planning committee have given the go-ahead on four projects which will bring 600 new homes to Salford. The projects, which were recommended for approval by officers also, is a major boost for housing in Greater Manchester.

The schemes include Bellway Homes’ plans for a residential development on land at Campbell Road in Swinton. How Planning submitted a full planning application for 241 new homes and a 50-acre community park at the former Swinton Waste Water Treatment Works, which was decommissioned more than 25 years ago. The approved development provides a combination of three and four bedroom homes including 52 affordable dwellings.

James Berggren, Senior Planner at How Planning, said: ”It’s been great working with Bellway Homes on a scheme that will significantly contribute towards Salford’s local housing needs and will transform a vacant site within Swinton into an attractive residential development, with the added benefit of creating a substantial new community park that will be used by both the immediate and wider community.”

Another scheme given the green lights was by Great Cheetham Developments – which is set to be built on brownfield land. The site, the former Griffin Hotel in Lower Broughton, will be transformed into an L-shaped block of five storeys including 47 two bed and 10 one bed apartments, alongside additional parking – all designed by Project3.

A spokesperson said: ”The proposals designed by Project3 will significantly improve the amenity for local residents and businesses, in addition to providing much needed housing in this location.”

Plans by Countryside Properties for 244 homes in Eccles, and an 86-apartment riverside block at Forshaw Land & Property’s Worrall Street development have also been approved.
