University Buckingham Estates Campus

The University of Buckingham have completed a landmark deal which will see them repurpose Manchester Metropolitan University’s campus in Crewe – redeveloping the site into a new health science campus. The development is set to create hundreds of jobs within the region, whilst attracting up to 5,000 students.

The University of Buckingham, who’ll be speaking about their campus vision and plans at the North West Universities Development Plans Event, plan to redevelop the site and open to students as early as 2019 – with the ‘Apollo Buckingham Health Science Campus (ABHSC)’ offering high-quality degrees in high-skilled areas such as biomedical sciences and podiatry.

John Clapham, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Buckingham and speaker at the North West Universities Estates Event, said: “Our trailblazing medical school in Buckingham has been a phenomenal success. With this new campus in the North West, Buckingham will expand this innovation beyond medicine, building on our expertise to broaden our health science provision. We’re delighted to partner with Apollo, which has dramatically improved access to high quality medical care in India. We believe this new educational initiative has the potential to make a significant contribution to improving global healthcare by training new generations of caring professionals.”

The deal comes at the perfect moment for the region – with Manchester Metropolitan University officially moving out of town next year. It’s also said to be a ‘major vote of confidence in the UK, with a significant overseas investment’. With the links into Crewe from the proposed HS2 line it’s also set to see major new regeneration and development and therefore a great location of what could be a thriving campus site.
