Over £22m worth of investment has been progressed by West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which will be used across regeneration projects, transport and improving and delivering clean air. The money will be spent on projects to ease traffic flow on a key highway between Calderdale and Kirklees, enable more new homes to be built in a residential area of Halifax, and improve the overall air quality in the region’s cities and rural areas.

Investment in the region will be a key focus of the West Yorkshire Economic Growth Conference where we’ll discuss and debate the key topics in the region to drive growth and collaborate on infrastructure, housing, skills, industrial strategy and more.

A futher £4m was put towards funding further development work on the A629 between Halifax and Huddersfield which is part of a wider £120m programme to improve traffic capacity in the area.

The Clean Bus Technology Fund, which plans to fit emission-reducing clean technology to more than 230 West Yorkshire buses, was given a boost through a £120,000 commitment.

Approval was also given at the West Yorkshire Combined Authority meeting to kick-start a residential development in Beech Hill in Halifax – creating 113 new jobs and 100 new homes. The plans will include road access to a drive-through good outlet at the New Bolton Woods urban village development in Bradford.

Cllr Tim Swift, Deputy Chair of the WYCA, Leader of Calderdale Council and an invited speaker to our West Yorkshire Economic Growth Conference, said: ”By investing in projects that improve air quality, regenerate key residential areas and improve traffic fund, we’re committing to growing our economy for the benefit of everyone. Projects approved will help create more than 300 new jobs and 900 homes in the coming years while also reducing the levels of harmful nitrogen oxides from our streets. It’s our aim that we make the region a better place to live and work for our residents and these approvals are yet another positive step forwards for the three million people who call Leeds City Region their home.
