Future Development Plans – Belfast & Northern Ireland; Sponsored by Public Sector Plc

This event will delve into the future development, regeneration and investment opportunities across Northern Ireland.

With the doubling of central government funding announced in the Chancellor’s spending review as well as major development projects spanning housing, infrastructure, education and more, Northern Ireland is set to experience a strong economic recovery during 2021.

During this event a number of high-level influential stakeholders will share short presentations on these future projects and plans – highlighting opportunities, challenges and the future vision for their organisation in Northern Ireland.

  • Osborne + Co – Osborne + Co are behind one of the most exciting regeneration schemes in Belfast for several years on a 16 acre site by the River Lagan, formerly occupied by the historic Sirocco Engineering Works. The 5 year project will see the development of 790,000 sq ft of Grade A office space, around 700 city centre homes, a 4 star hotel together with retail, hospitality and professional service units. In total the project will bring over £400 million of investment and has the potential to create around 8,000 jobs, equating to 20% of the city council’s community development plan. As well as providing jobs, high quality offices and much needed space for city centre living, the scheme will transform a key site which has been out of use since 1999.
  • South Bank Square – The Derry based development company is pressing ahead with a number of major projects in Belfast and wider Northern Ireland. They recently announced plans for a £45 million Build to Rent tower called ‘The Grattan’ on Belfast’s Great Victoria Street, which will total 210 apartments when complete. They will be carrying out a community consultation in early 2021 before applying for full planning permission. The company are also behind a £100 million project in the Waterside area of Derry that will see 750 homes constructed when complete. Martin will outline the timeline for these projects and the partners they are looking to work with to bring them forward.
  • Belfast City Council – Cathy will discuss the council’s efforts to diversify the city centre through sustainable development to make it more connected and accessible, and a more attractive place to live. She will also delve into the councils, work to bring forward some of their own land assets in the city centre alongside other public sector bodies and the private sector for housing-led regeneration schemes, to increase city centre living and address some of the challenges facing the businesses located there.
  • Titanic Quarter – James Eyre BSc (Hons) joined the team in Titanic Quarter Ltd in August 2006 and is primarily responsible for the delivery of development projects Titanic Quarter, management of the retained investment assets and the estate management of a significant portfolio of commercial and residential properties. James has led numerous development projects at Titanic Quarter from initial concept through to detailed design, securing planning permission through construction and ultimately to occupation.  A number of those developments are retained within the portfolio whilst others have been sold to occupiers or third-party investors.  The projects have included major residential, commercial and education developments and James has the intimate knowledge of the associated technical, commercial, planning and financial processes associated with major brownfield regeneration such as that undertaken at Titanic Quarter.  James has worked with a range of occupiers including Citi, Amazon, Belfast Met, HBO, PRONI etc.  James has an experienced team at Titanic Quarter to support him with project development and estate management.
  • Public Sector Plc – As experts in asset management, development and regeneration through working with local authorities across the UK, Leena Gillespie is looking forward to chairing the conversations of the day and will be on hand to talk about how Public Sector Plc partnership model has the capability to unlock development across the 11 districts of Northern Ireland.
