Future Development Plans – East Midlands

Friday, 12th March 2021 1345hrs – 1545hrs

This event will highlight potential development, regeneration and investment opportunities and future projects across the East Midlands.

The East Midlands is going through an exciting period of development and regeneration with developments totalling hundreds of millions planned – including logistics facilities, major housing schemes, build to rent projects, commercial sites and more. The webinar will explore these schemes, whilst also addressing some of the key challenges and opportunities facing the region over the coming years.

We will hear from some of the developers, investors and public sector decision makers responsible for delivering the developments through a series of interactive presentations before an open Q&A with our audience.

  • North West Leicestershire Council – One of the most active boroughs in the Midlands, Beverley has lots to talk about as part of this event. Maximising the potential for HS2 is high on the agenda and although the train won’t stop in their district they are working with Midlands Engine and the new East Midlands Development Corporation to create several major logistics hubs at junction 11 of the M42. There are also exciting plans afoot for the regeneration of Coalville Town Centre including the Market Hall rejuvenation project and a £25m injection of cash from the Future High Streets fund. She will share details on how this cash is to be spent and what further development it will unlock.
  • Gleeson – Gleeson Homes are an established housebuilder in the Midlands and North of England specialising in building high quality, low cost homes on brownfield sites. They are very active in the East Midlands, having recently announced several developments in the region, with more in the pipeline. These include 200 homes in Mansfield, 85 homes in Boston, 120 homes in Newark and 90 homes in Horncastle. Steve will share details of these projects, their plans for the next 12 months as they look to expand in the region and how their low cost ethos and use of brownfield sites helps drive inclusive economic growth.
  • CEG – As project lead for the exciting East West scheme in Nottingham, Olivia will be joining to panel to talk about their 11,868 sq ft of design-led offices and communal spaces which will encourage cross-organisation collaboration. She will also touch on CEG’s wider Midland’s aspirations.
  • Midlands Engine – The East Midlands Development Corporation is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to shift the dial of regional economic performance via a new, locally-led development body which will have the freedom to focus on a series of large-scale projects which cross council boundaries. Its three key projects; the Toton & Chetwynd ‘Garden of Innovation’, an international centre for the development of market-ready zero emissions technologies at the former Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station and a new Inland Freeport at East Midlands Airport are forecast to deliver 84,000 jobs and add £4.8bn a year to the East Midlands economy in the years to come. Ken will discuss how the programme will create confidence in the East Midlands as a long-term investment destination and drive progress in productivity and growth across the region’s communities.
