Network Rail Property (Session 1)

A major landowner in the Capital, Network Rail are set to start utilising their estate like never before. They’re looking to exploit undeveloped land whilst using over-station development to also drive economic growth and development within the capital. They’re not doing it alone however, and we’ll be joined by private developers who’ll share details on their potential schemes and development zones, whilst also hearing from those in the private sector who’re leading those projects and they’ll share timeframes and procurement details. China Belt & Road (Disruptor Panel)

China and the UK have a strong working relationship in terms in inward and outward investment – and a key initiative that will see this continue is the Belt and Road Initiative (One Belt One Road). This new development strategy adopted by the Chinese Government involves infrastructure development and investments in 152 countries – and the UK is seen as a key element. We’ll be hearing about how this is set to boost investment in the UK, and in particular London. Speaker:

Who’s speaking on Friday 7th June

David Biggs, Managing Director, Network Rail Property

With over 25 years experience operating as a senior executive; David is the Managing Director for Network Rail’s property division. His customer-focused approach to placemaking has shown how stations can be a catalyst for regeneration – creating a hub for communities and becoming destinations in their own right. Embracing partnership with developers, David has overseen the creation of five commercial joint ventures in the last 10 years and has been instrumental in accelerating the release of land for housing.

He’ll be speaking about their ongoing projects – and what future schemes will come to fruition in the immediate future – the next fifteen years.

Basil Demeroutis, Founder & Managing Partner, Fore Partnership / Landid

Basil works at the intersection of private wealth and commercial property, and is passionate about sustainable real estate, and aligning property investment strategy with family values, and a wider sense of purpose. For the last two decades he has assembled disconnected views of ‘green’ investing, design, community, social impact, personal creativity and empowerment into a vision for property investing that FORE Partnership call ‘responsible real estate’ whilst driving higher returns with lower risks.

He’ll be speaking about their projects and future vision as the purpose-driven real estate investment firm actively investment and seek assets across the UK, with current schemes at Tower Bridge Court, Hammersmith Road and Mill Street just a few of those ongoing.

Matthew Bennett, Cabinet Lead – Planning, Investment & New Homes, Lambeth Council

Matthew is currently responsible for a wide portfolio covering housing development, economic growth, strategic infrastructure and spatial planning in the region of Lambeth, whilst also being an elected Labour Councillor to Lambeth Council. His previous roles include time spent at the House of Commons, before several roles at Lambeth around investment, regeneration and planning.

Lambeth Council have a very concise Local Plan which is running for the next 10 years’ and they’re prioritising developments which promote inclusive growth, reduce inequality and help shape sustainability across the region – whilst delivering economic growth, quality neighbourhoods and work places. Matthew will be giving us his insight into the next 10 years’ and beyond – with intel into future development sites.

Amanda Clack, Head of Strategic Advisory, CBRE

Currently working for global real estate advisor CBRE Amanda has an exceptional CV. Amanda was the 135th President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and with over 30 years’ experience in real estate, construction and infrastructure as well as board-level experience gained on strategic transformation assignments in the private sector and government she has a wealth of knowledge she’ll be sharing at the event.

Amanda’s current role sees he Heading up Strategic Advisory alongside being the Managing Director for Advisory across EMEA – working with public and private sector clients to deliver major strategic consultancy projects, and she’ll touch on this throughout her keynote. She’ll also be speaking about a book in which she is the co-author talking about diversity and inclusion within the industry.

Tim Shaw, Head of Regeneration, Solum Partnership

Tim has exceptional expertise within the property and real estate marketplace – with previous companies including BNP Paribas, Lambert Smith Hampton and King Sturge. Prior to his move to Solum he was Head of Development (London) at Carter Jonas providing advice to numerous high-profile private and public sector clients. He joined Solum in June 2018.

Solum Partnership is a joint-venture between Network Rail and Kier and together they’re working together to attract private investment into the rail network and build much needed new homes close to transport hubs. They’ve already completed major schemes at Epsom, Christchurch and Hayewards Heath, and alongside ongoing schemes such as Walthamstow and Twickenham they have 4 further schemes in the pipeline and Tim will be sharing details exclusively on this.

Robert Meakin, Partner, Clyde & Co

Robert is a partner in the International Projects and Construction Group at Clyde & Co and he has been advising clients in the infrastructure and construction industry for over 25 years. He has previously headed up the Head of Projects team at Shadbolt LLP – and has a vast experience across government departments, project sponsors, SPVs, major contractors/consultants, funders and developers.

In his current role he covers major energy and transport projects, commercial and industrial development and PFI/PPP and this means he is incredibly close to the effects the China Belt & Road initiative is having on the UK especially the capital London. He’ll be sharing inside information on how the initiative will help shape the built environment in London.

Liz Smith, Partner, Purcell

Purcell are the Event Partner for the London Property Club (June) and Liz will be chairing the final session of the day, focused on London South Bank and the mass investment and development happening across that area of London.

Liz’s passion lies in progressive conservation, approaching historic buildings with new and ground breaking design concepts. At the core of building conservation, Liz believes designs can be more creative within the specific constraints and rich context of historic environments. Liz is highly regarded for her diligent work ethic and innovation, honing her skills through remarkable projects for the National Maritime Museum, Kew Palace and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Peter Ward, Director of Real Estate Development, Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust

As the biggest landowner across the Southbank the hospital are a key and important asset within the region. Peter, who also works at the University College London, will be speaking at the event about the major schemes planned by the hospital as they go through a large redevelopment.

One of the schemes is the 2.2 hectare site behind St Thomas’ Hospital which will be transformed and the 39-storey tower which Southwark Council have just given the thumbs up to.

In addition to wowing the London food scene, Richard has cooked for the Queen twice, British Airways Concorde and is the Chef’s Alliance Spokesperson of the Slow Food Movement. Lauded as one of the greatest chefs of his generation (having won 3 AA restaurant of the year awards), he has received praise from some of the fiercest food and restaurants critics in the land.
