Disruptor Series: Robotics in Construction

This webinar is part of a new series on the future of the construction industry which are taking place over the next 12 months, and will explore the next big trends, innovations and challenges the industry needs to prepare for.

The construction industry is one of the least automated sectors and whether it is commercial construction, renovation or demolition, robots don’t yet play a major role. However there are several robot development projects underway which could see a construction robotics revolution. From 3D printing robots that can turn out large buildings, to brick and street laying robots and those involved in demolition these robots will drive productivity, increase safety and dramatically reduce costs.

In this webinar we will gather thought leaders and major industry figures who are at the forefront of the construction robotics revolution to explore their potential uses and learn how the sector will need to adapt.

  • DataForm Lab – Eva is a robotics pioneer and the founder of DataForm Lab which works to demonstrate the impact integrated industrial robotics can have in the property sector. Her work has shown the part robotics can play in offsite manufacturing processes and how they can make construction projects more collaborative, productive and simpler. She has also demystified robotics – shifting mindsets to encourage mainstream adoption and showcase the benefits of diversity in the sector.
  • The Manufacturing Technology Centre – The Manufacturing Technology Centre is at the forefront of the efforts to integrate Robotics into the construction and property centre, through its work at the Ansty Park site in the West Midlands. They are currently trialling robotic ‘dogs’ alongside Boston Dynamics which can be used to automate the documentation of construction progress, monitor remote or hazardous environments and provide situational studies in remote settings. Mark will discuss this trial, and how the technology can be used to increase efficiency and improve safety across the construction industry.
  • Schindler – Christian Studer studied civil engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and received his PhD in the field of multibody dynamics. He has held various positions in Schindler’s innovation teams including an assignment as Schindler technology expert on the Solar Impulse mission, the first around-the-world-trip with a solar airplane. Today he is the head of Schindler’s New Technologies department, which develops radical innovations for the sector – including the use of robots in the construction of skyscrapers.
