Event Information:

This webinar is part of a new series on the future of the construction industry which are taking place over the next 12 months, and will explore the next big trends, innovations and challenges the industry needs to prepare for.

With the ever increasing capacity of renewable energy which is set to consistently contribute over 50% of the UK’s energy in coming years, there is a huge requirement for energy storage to ensure a consistency of supply. The market for energy storage is growing quickly, with a 13.5 GW total pipeline of projects and alternative battery technologies set to be utilised, including ammonia, hydrogen, pumped storage hydropower and compressed air.

We will hear from some of the industry’s biggest players on their upcoming developments, why the energy is set to play an important role in maintaining the UK’s energy supply and how it is vital in enabling the renewable energy revolution.

Speakers for this event include:

  • Gore Street Capital – Gore Street Capital is a global platform for the acquisition and management of renewable energy assets globally. In May 2018, GSC launched Gore Street Energy Storage Fund which is the first UK pure play energy storage listed fund, building a diversified portfolio of projects, the fund already has an operational portfolio of 320 Megawatts in the UK. Alicja will discuss their market leading approach to investing in battery storage projects and why a large increase in energy storage capacity is needed to maintain the stability of our electricity supply, as renewables make up an every greater proportion of our energy supply.
  • Intelligent Land Investments Group – is a Scotland based land investment company with experience across residential, renewable energy and energy storage. They have been involved with the energy storage sector since 2017, investing in both Pumped Storage Hydro (PSH) and battery storage projects. ILI Group are behind plans for a 450MW pumped storage hydro facility on the Shores of Loch Ness, currently in planning with schemes totalling 1.5GW to follow. They are also investing heavily in battery storage, with 12 projects totalling 1GW in the works. Mark will discuss how their projects their pipeline of projects will save over 200 million tonnes of CO2 in their lifetime, create 5,000 green jobs and increase the security of our electricity supply as we become increasingly reliant on intermittent renewable energy.
  • Eversheds Sutherland – Michelle is International Head of Eversheds Sutherland Clean Energy team which has advised on over 50GW of clean energy projects. She has personally advised on over 10GW of renewable energy projects principally providing advice on M&A, investments and joint venture transactions. She is actively involved in policy and regulation on clean energy and will provide an overview of the energy storage sector in the UK, discussing the factors driving its growth and the increasing importance it will play in supporting our energy supply and wider economy.
  • National Grid ESO – Alex works in the Future Energy Scenarios team at National Grid ESO, which is working towards decarbonising our energy system as we move towards the net zero 2050 target. They are working to ensure we can continue to balance the grid as electricity demand increases and evolves, as we come to rely more heavily on electric vehicles. He will provide an overview of National Grid ESO’s work to enable the development of battery storage capacity and discuss the long term picture for the market in the UK.
