Springfield Properties have announced further positive news as they continue to lead the housing charge in Scotland. The Elgin based received the thumbs up this week from the Scottish Borders Council’s Planning & Building Committee to build 75 affordable homes in Duns.

Springfield are one of five developers joining us at the Edinburgh Development Plans Conference alongside the City of Edinburgh Council. Springfield are currently undergoing huge £1.5bn project to deliver five new villages across Scotland, whilst also announcing recently that they’re committed to implementing cabling at all of their new builds which makes sure they’re ready for the expected electric car movement.

The development at Duns will see one and two bedroom cottage flats, two and three bedroom bungalows and additional terraced and semi-detached homes built on the site. The announcement sees a slight increase on the previous planning consent to build 62 houses.

Tom Leggeat, Managin Director of Springfield Properties said of the scheme: ”Our plans for the site just off Springfield Avenue in Duns will regenerate a neglected pocket of land that has been adandoned since 2007. It’ll bring 75 new, highly-efficient and cost-effective homes to the area. It’s a great opportunity for us to introduce much-needed housing in a new location and build relationships with housing associations, councils and communities.”

Referring to the focus Springfield Properties have had on delivering affordable housing to help the Scottish Government reach their target of increasing supply by 67% by 2021 Tom added: ”Affordable housing has been a focus across Scotland for many years now and we’re taking this opportunity to strengthen the affordable housing sector of Springfield and help achieve this goal. The need for affordable homes is Scotland-wide including the Borders so we hope this is the first of many.”
