Disruptor Series: Autonomous Vehicles and the Built Environment

Monday, 18th January 2021 1345hrs – 1530hrs

This online event is part of a new series on the future of the construction industry which are taking place over the next 12 months, and will explore the next big trends, innovations and challenges the industry needs to prepare for.

Autonomous vehicles have the potential to radically transform the UK’s built environment and will create a need for highways and transport infrastructure to adapt and upgrade. They have potential uses in construction, transport, freight and logistics and have the potential to increase productivity and efficiency, reduce pollution and address labour shortages. This webinar will explore the opportunities the adoption of autonomous vehicles will hold for the built environment to enable you to understand how your company will benefit as well as staying ahead of the competition.

These events are a must for those wanting to be at the forefront of knowledge and understanding and gain insight into how the industry is going to innovate, transform and disrupt in order to stay ahead of the competition.

Speakers for this event include:

Rebecca Posner,
Behavioural Research and Evaluation Lead
Peter Allchorne,
Partner
Petrina Anne Steele,
Global Lead – Connected Autonomous Vehicles & Smart Mobility
Robert Bateman,
Senior Engineer, Research & Advanced Engineering
  • The Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles – The Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles is a joint Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and Department for Transport unit which works with business and academia to enable the emergence of connected and self-driving vehicles and by leading the government’s Future of Transport Strategy. The work undertaken by CCAV and its partners has already ensured that the UK has a proven track record in leading connected and self-driving vehicle innovation, enabling joint public and private investment of £440 million.
  • Equinix – Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company, enabling digital leaders to harness a trusted platform to bring together and interconnect the foundational infrastructure that powers their success. They have grown into a £1.8 billion company operating over 210 data centres on five continents. Petrina is responsible for shaping Equinix’s connected autonomous vehicles and smart transport strategy, including integrating emerging technologies that include IoT, cloud technologies, 5G, AI and complex data sharing.
  • Nissan – Nissan is working as part of a new consortium called ServCity which includes Connected Places Catapult, Hitachi, TRL, University of Nottingham and SBD Automotive and is working to develop a blueprint that will help cities across the UK introduce autonomous vehicles. The electric Nissan LEAF is being used as a test vehicle for the project and last year it carried out a 230-mile autonomous journey, one of the most complex yet carried out on UK roads. The project, backed by Government and industry funding, will not only help make autonomous vehicles more user friendly, but also give users confidence that they can respond quickly and safely and to all types of challenges they face on the roads.
  • DAC Beachcroft – Peter leads DAC Beachcroft’s specialist interest group looking at the legal and insurance implications for connected and automated vehicles, and the wider Internet of Things. As part of this session, he will talk about how towns and cities that are actively looking to widely buy into autonomous vehicle infrastructure might prepare accordingly to mitigate risk and expedite delivery.
