Disruptor Series: Blockchain & The Built Environment

This webinar is part of a new series on the future of the construction industry which are taking place over the next 12 months, and will explore the next big trends, innovations and challenges the industry needs to prepare for.

Blockchain is often mentioned as one of the buzzwords of the technological transformation of construction but the majority of professionals in the industry don’t know what blockchain is, or understand its relevance to the industry.

  • Digital Catapult – Keerthi is a noted expert in Blockchain technology and as part of Digital Catapult he advises business on adopting and exploiting blockchain technologies to help them deliver cutting-edge and truly disruptive solutions. Previously he was an expert for the Oxford University Blockchain Strategy Programme as well as Head of Blockchain for Plutus, where he designed the industry’s first crypto-payment system to enable everyday use. He will discuss how organisations from all parts of the built environment can utilise and benefit from blockchain technologies.
  • Arup – Arup are renowned experts on the increasing intersection between technology and the built environment and how we can adapt to incorporate the new ideas into the industry. Matthias will discuss blockchain technology has the potential to become vital to the built environment as our cities continue to expand and diversify. He will discuss the blockchain’s potential applications in the realms of property, energy, transport and water supply and its potential to help solve the challenges of ageing populations, urbanisation and climate change.
  • University College London – Eleni is Associate Professor in Digital Innovation and Management at the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management at University College London. She is also a board member of the Construction Blockchain Consortium, which is the leading construction industry knowledge transfer consortium in collaboration with a premier university. It aims to track and test emerging and disruptive technologies including Blockchain, the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence to encourage change and build resilience.
  • Bespok – As founder of Bespok Charlene works to create solutions to problems in the built environment and construction industry through the integration of blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. She will discuss the myriad opportunities that exist for the use of the technology including project management, crisis management quantity surveying, contract management and more.
